June 17, 2023 - Two lectures this meeting will last until 1 pm - "Appreciating Conflicting Evidence: Analysis and Resolution Develops Broader Research" and "Indirect Evidence: Finding What Was Not Written" by Rebecca Whitman Koford, CG, CGL
Conflicting evidence is a gift , because resolving the conflict often leads to new discoveries.
How an understanding of indirect evidence is such a valuable instrument in your methodology tool-kit. This talk uses case studies to examine methods and sources that can help build a case to finding ancestral relationships.
Rebecca Whitman Koford, CG, CGL holds credentials as a Certified Genealogist and as a Certified Genealogical Lecturer. Her focuses are Maryland and military records at the National Archives, especially War of 1812. She has spoken for the National Genealogical Society Conference, Association of Professional Genealogists Conference, Federation of Genealogical Societies Conference, RootsTech, and webinars for Legacy Family Tree Webinars. She has published articles in NGS Magazine, APG Magazine, and the Maryland Genealogical Society Journal. She co-wrote the NGS Series in the States edition on Maryland. Rebecca teaches a course for The Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research. She is an alumnus and the former administrator of the ProGen Study Group and serves as Executive Director of the Board of Certification of Genealogists and as the Director of the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records.
July 15, 2023 - "Hidden Features in FamilySearch" by Lynell Moss
Lynell Moss is a 6th generation Dallasite. She has been researching hers and other's families since 1968. She has been in a leadership position with the Plano Family History Center for 24 years and is the Director of the Great Family Search Conference.
August 19, 2023 - "30 Types of Maps Useful in Genealogy" by Margaret Kapustiak
Maps can unlock details about a family or lead researchers to new resources. The presentation will cover various kinds of and sources for maps, plus look at details included and not included in maps.
October 21, 2023 - "After They Are Gone: What Probate Records Tell Us" by Barbara Coakley
Court records created by the death of an ancestor relate to decisions made regarding the distribution of the estate to the heirs, creditors and dependents.
November 18, 2023 - "Researching Graphically: Expanding Your Research With Timelines, Charts, Spreadsheets, and Diagrams" by Ari Wilkins
Think about researching and organizing documents beyond genealogical software. Learn about new ways to visualize and analyze research by creating timelines, charts, spreadsheets and diagrams.

DNA Special Interest Group - June 13, 2023
Group meets the second Tuesday of every month in the Genealogy section of W.O. Haggard Library from 7-8:30 pm. Our goal is to increase our knowledge related to using DNA results to further our genealogy research. This is a place to share ideas, ask questions, and learn about DNA. The group is open to all levels from beginner to advanced.

Its mission is to preserve, restore and protect the property, gravesites, monuments and other appurtenances within the Plano Old City Cemetery located at 12th and H Streets in Plano, Texas. Any person who supports the mission of the Association is eligible for membership. Membership is by application & payment of dues, download the membership form here.
